[SERVICE 03 // E-COMMERCE WEBSITES]VALLETTA / MALTA / GOZO

E-commerce websites, designed as carefully as the homepage.

A shop is not a homepage with a basket attached. made.mt designs the whole journey: how a product is chosen, what a customer needs to know before they buy, and what happens after they press pay. The same goes for quote flows and bookings, which for many Maltese businesses are the shop.

Shops, quotes and bookings

Not every business sells from a basket. A showroom needs a quote request that captures enough to price the job. A restaurant needs a booking. A charter operator needs an enquiry with the date, the number of guests and the boat. We design the flow your business actually runs on, and we design it with the same care as the pages people see first.

Where you do sell online, we build product pages that answer the questions that stop a sale: real dimensions, materials, what works with what, delivery to Malta and Gozo, and returns. One project in our portfolio, a designer tap shop still in build, shows the minimum working water pressure on every product, because many Maltese homes are fed from a roof tank and a tap that will not work on it is a return waiting to happen.

What is included

  • Product, category and collection pages designed for how your customers choose.
  • Configurators where a product has options: finishes, sizes, materials.
  • Checkout with an established payment provider, such as Stripe.
  • Quote and booking flows that send structured requests, not a blank message box.
  • Product structured data, so Google can understand price and availability.
  • Pages for delivery, returns, terms and privacy, written for your business.
  • Accessibility built in, now that the European Accessibility Act covers e-commerce.

The rules come before the design

Selling online from Malta means EU rules. Since 1 July 2021, VAT on sales to consumers in other EU countries follows EU-wide e-commerce rules, with a One Stop Shop for declaring it. The Consumer Rights Directive sets out what a shop must tell buyers before they order, and bans pre-ticked boxes for extra charges. The geo-blocking rules limit how you can treat customers from elsewhere in the EU. And the European Accessibility Act brings e-commerce services into scope for accessibility.

We design with these in mind so the shop does not have to be rebuilt to comply. We are not your accountant or your lawyer: the VAT position of your business is a question for your accountant, and we will ask you to check it before launch.

Fast enough to sell

Most shopping in Malta happens on a phone. Product pages are image-heavy by nature, which is exactly where slow sites lose people. We size and compress every image, set its dimensions so the page does not jump, and keep the JavaScript to what the shop needs.

QUESTIONS04 ANSWERS
Which e-commerce platform do you use?

It depends on the shop. For a focused catalogue we hand-build the shop and take payments through an established provider such as Stripe. If your catalogue or stock system needs a full platform, we will say so at the start.

Can customers in Gozo order?

Yes. Delivery to Gozo is set up like any other zone, with its own delivery terms if they differ.

Do I need to register for the VAT One Stop Shop?

That depends on how much you sell to consumers in other EU countries, and it is a question for your accountant. The EU threshold is EUR 10 000 a year across the EU; the European Commission's OSS portal explains the rules.

Can you build a quote or booking flow instead of a shop?

Yes. For many Maltese businesses that is the right answer, and we design it as carefully as a checkout.
